Shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, Columbus Fire and Rescue responded to a house fire at 1103 Railroad Street. The incident is under investigation as a probable arson.
CFR Battalion Chief Mark Ward said that this is the second time the house has burned.
“It’s a vacant house, and it burned a few months ago,” Ward said. “The fire started in the front of the house then, too. There’s no power, no gas and no heat source. This didn’t just spontaneously combust.”
Ward said that four engines and a battalion chief responded to the blaze, and it took several hours to get the fire fully out.
There have been at least 10 unsolved cases of arson in Southside in the past year.1
