At approximately 2 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, Amelia Jackson apparently lost control of her black 2007 Chevy Tahoe on Main Street and crashed the vehicle into an embankment on Second Street that serves as the border for Harvey’s parking lot.
Jackson also hit a light pole, snapping it in the process. Columbus Light and Water Manager Todd Gale said the snapped pole did not disrupt the service of any CL&W customers.
Jackson’s passenger, Summer Helton, had to be removed from the vehicle with the ‘jaws of life” by Columbus Fire and Rescue. Both of the women were transported by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.
Witnesses said Jackson seemed “out of it” at the scene of the wreck and she told Columbus Police officers she did not remember what happened. She said she and Helton had been out celebrating Helton’s birthday before the crash.
Police reports state Jackson was “obviously intoxicated.” A CPD spokesperson said she will be facing charges for DUI once her blood alcohol results are returned.0
