Just after 7:00 pm Saturday, Lowdes County first responders were dispatched to Jess Lyons Road near the intersection of Champion Road for a wreck involving a rollover.
On scene, they found Jeremy Hayden trapped inside his Volkswagen Passat. Hayden was quickly freed from the demolished vehicle. While he was being stabilized by medical personnel, it became obvious that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the wreck.
Taking full responsibility for the wreck, Hayden told deputies that he was driving south on Jess Lyons Road, exceeding the speed limit, when he lost control of his car.
The path of the accident showed that the Volkswagen left the western shoulder of the roadway, turned sideways and started rolling at the end of a nearby driveway. The car was airborne for approximately 50 feet before crashing to the ground and flipping at least one more time. The Passat narrowly missed a light pole during its flight.
Hayden was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle and was later charged with driving under the influence.
