WEST POINT –  Dr. Pete Edwards of West Point has passed away. Edwards, 69, was a longtime resident who touched many lives through his work at the West Point Animal Clinic.

“He was a personal friend, and a dedicated professional,” said West Point Mayor Robbie Robinson.  “We went the extra mile to provide good service.  I will always remember the times he came to my house to help me put down a pet because I couldn’t bring myself to take my dog in to his office.  He was truly a great human being and a mild-mannered, Christian gentlemen.”

“He was a man with many passions,” remembered attorney Robert Marshall.  “He loved golf and snow skiing, but he probably loved his dogs more than any of those.  He was a quiet man who served his community in many ways, and he was a good friend.”

Edwards was born July 13, 1944, to the late Mary Jean Hardin and Williams Harold Edwards, Sr.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of West Point, where he served as a deacon.  He served on the board for Oak Hill Academy and the Clay County Medical Center, and was past president of the Miss. State Veterinarian Association.

Services were Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Funderburg and Rev. Gary Richardson officiating.  A private family burial followed in Bruce City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kyle Chandler, III, Robert Allen Wilson, Kyle Chandler, IV, Rod Childress, Ed Kennedy, Charles Westone Chandler, James C. Helveston, Dr. Ed Miller, Mac Huddleston and Richard Rose.  Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Yelverstone and Donald Edwards.

He is survived by a wife, Jackie Reese Edwards of West Point; sons Andy Edwards (Dana) of Oxford, Aaron Edwards (Andrea) of Madison; sisters, Carole Campbell, Pat Mann both of Bruce; 7 grandchildren, Hunt, Mac, James, Henry, Riley, Drew, Polly.

Memorials may be made to Smile Train 41 Madison Ave, 28th floor New York, NY 10010 or Oak Hill Academy 808 N Eshman Ave West point, MS 39773 or First Baptist Church PO Box 794 West Point, MS 39773.
