A Columbus man out for a good time spent the night in jail after police discovered some marijuana in his car outside of a popular Southside hotspot. Columbus police officers were doing a routine patrol of the Hediho lounge on 21st Street South around 1 a.m. Saturday. when they came upon a medium sized “baggie” of marijuana sitting on the front console of a parked car in the bar’s parking lot. Just as officers discovered the weed, 23-year old Joseph Edinburgh, of Columbus, approached the vehicle.
Edinburgh, who appeared to have been enjoying himself while in the bar, admitted the weed belonged to him, but disagreed with officers that he should go to jail.
“Man, isn’t that just a ticket? I got friends inside…we were just gettin’ started,”Edinburgh pleaded.
Officer Canyon Boykin explained to the young man that he was going to need to go to jail, and asked Edinburgh if he had someone to take the car home. While calmly sitting on the ground next to the car, he replied:
“I got my boy driving…he’s driving. Just go inside and ask for him.”
“Ask for who?” another officer queried.
“Maaaaaan, just go inside and ask for Head. Tell them you’re looking for Head,” Edinburgh said.
“Seriously? You are not really asking me to go into that club and ask that – are you?” an officer said (with somewhat of a restrained grin.)
“C’moooooon. That’s his name. Head. It’s his name. Why are you arresting me again, man?” he asked.
Officer Boykin helped Edinburgh to his feet and took him into custody. Joseph Mylon Edinburgh was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana in a vehicle. He was released on a $687 bond later that evening. It was unclear whether any officers were able to get Head (to move the car.)
