A Saturday afternoon joy ride lead to the arrest of three Columbus teens. Deshawn Stevens, Elijah Richey and Nikey Cashe Richey were arrested and charged with posession of stolen property after the white Cadillac Stevens was driving was reported stolen.
According to police reports, the teens were pulled over in front of Autozone on Alabama Street in East Columbus. The car was spotted coming through the intersection of MLK Jr. and Main Street when the tag was checked by officer Joseph Strevel.
Stevens said they had bought the car in Jackson and had come to Columbus to spend the night in a hotel “with some females.”
Richey, a passenger in the vehicle, was also charged with providing false information to law enforcement after he said his name was “Keshaw Miller.”
A fourth passenger in the vehicle, Clifford Johnson, was also taken into custody but he was not charged with any misconduct.
All of the occupants of the vehicle said they were headed to the store to buy cake and ice cream for a birthday party in the park.
The three teens were held in the Lowndes County Juvenile Detention Center until they were transported back to Jackson by the Jackson Police Department.
