Welty Series at MUW October 24-26
This annual weekend in October, which honors the world-renowned alumna Eudora Welty, draws noted authors, journalists, scholars and artists to The W. This year’s Eudora Welty Writers’ Symposium theme is “‘Alive as Ever, on the Brink of Oblivion’: Southern Writers in the Eye of the Storm.” Ellen Gilchrist, long considered a major voice in Southern Literature, will be the keynote speaker. Yokohama Land Purchased
1,100 acres of the Prairie Belt Powersite have been purchased. Of this property 570 acres has been deeded to Yokohama.
“There are many tasks that must be completed for the Yokohama project such as water, sewer, road, and rail improvements but the first step in this process was acquiring the site ,” said LINK CEO Joe Max Higgins ,Jr.
This land purchased was part of the responsibilities defined in the memorandum of understanding .
“I would like to thank the State of Mississippi and the Mississippi Development Authority for making this portion of the funding possible,” said Higgins.
Yokohama is still on schedule to break ground in the fall.
Severstal Announces Flat Rolled Price Increase
Severstal NA announced a $20 per ton price increase this afternoon on all flat rolled products. In a letter to their customers the mill provided specific base pricing and also gave their customers a “firm price option” or FPO for three month and six month time periods. The FPO was first introduced by the mill in it’s last price announcement on June 27, 2013.
The price announcement impacts hot rolled, cold rolled and galvanized steel pricing for their spot customers only. Contract customers are not impacted by this announcement.

The corporate headquarters have been relocated to 900 Main Street in Columbus. The bank’s extensive operations center will remain in Macon, Mississippi.

12 Bar Lounge Closed
The 12 Bar Lounge, a blues bar located in Downtown Columbus, has closed its doors for the time being. Although owner Tyler Edmonds could not be reached for comments, the following message was left on the bar’s Facebook page Tuesday: “Guys, we’re working EXTREMELY hard to make some changes and hopefully find some way to make it work here 12 Bar. Nothing set in stone yet, but we’re making progress. PLEASE stay tuned and don’t forget about us!”
The bar opened in 2012.
