The current gun ordinance of Columbus is illegal. Yes, they should revisit it, but know what they can and can not regulate under MS state law:
MS law says:
“…no unit of local government may adopt an ordinance that restricts the possession, transportation, sale, transfer, or ownership of firearms or ammunition or their components.”

MS State Law: (1.f.) http://www.mscode.com/free/statutes/45/009/0053.htm.
Cities/counties in MS CAN ONLY regulate firearms only in the following situations:
(f) To regulate the carrying of a firearm at: (i) a public park or at a public MEETING of a county, municipality or other governmental body; (ii) a political rally, parade or official political meeting; or (iii) a nonfirearm-related school, college or professional athletic event. MS Code 45-9-53
