According to a spokesperson for Hattiesburg Municipal Court, newly-elected Ward 4 Councilman Marty Turner has outstanding fines for a second-offense DUI he received from the Hattiesburg Police Department December 19, 2010.
“Mr. Turner had a guilty conviction on the December 2010 DUI,” said the spokesperson. “He still owes fines to the City of Hattiesburg.”
When asked if there were warrants for Turner’s arrest, the spokesperson said she could not comment because it is not public information, but added, “his fines are still outstanding.”
The amount owed by Turner was not made available by the clerk.
Lt. Jon Traxler of the Hattiesburg Police Department provided the following information about Turner’s arrest:
“On 12/19/2010, Hattiesburg Police Officers observed a vehicle approach the safety checkpoint they were monitoring. The driver of a blue 2011 Hyundai stopped for the checkpoint. The driver was identified as Marty Turner by his expired DL. Officers believed the driver to be impaired at which time they performed SFTS which showed clues of impairment. Turner was then taken to the Hattiesburg Police Department where he was given a breath test. Based on the result of the test he was transported to the Forrest County Jail and booked for DUI 2nd Offense based on a prior conviction in Jones County within the five years prior to this stop.”
Turner did not respond to phone calls or text messages Tuesday night.
No information has been released to The Packet regarding Turner’s first DUI arrest in Jones County.
