County Holds Public Hearing on CalStar
The Lowndes County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday held a public hearing on a $5.35 million Capital Improvement Revolving Loan Program (CAP loan) from the Mississippi Development Authority. The board had approved to apply for the loan in April.
No one spoke in opposition of the loan approval and started the application process at the suggestion of George Crawford of Golden Triangle Planning and Development.
The CalStar project was announced by April 15 by Golden Triangle LINK CEO Joe Higgins when the board approved a memorandum of understanding for CalStar as well as approving the CAP loan application and an application for $1.25 million in Community Development Block Grants. The MOU holds CalStar to an $8 million investment and 58 initial jobs.
The Racine, Wis.-based plant will locate in a spec building currently owned by Agracel.
District 1 Supervisor and board president Harry Sanders said the CAP Loan money will be used to purchase the building from Agracel.
