Lowndes County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a New Hope couple who were allegedly fugitives from Texas and  wanted by the FBI. Deputies arrested 38-year old Candice Bragg and 42-year old Cliff Bragg Tuesday evening around 8 p.m. at a home located at 393 Rogers Way in the New Hope Park subdivision. Although charges have not been released, both were booked into the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center as being held for another jurisdiction.
Radio traffic Tuesday evening indicated that both had been identified as being wanted when their background was checked on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) at the home that evening. Numerous sources confirmed that the Braggs were wanted by the FBI from charges originating from their native Texas. Candice Bragg is originally from Eustace, Texas and Cliff Bragg reportedly hails from Lake Dallas, Texas. A transport van was called in to transport the two, as Candice Bragg is a woman of considerable size. A seat was removed from the van to accommodate her transport needs.
Candice Bragg was released from the LCADC sometime Wednesday and was seen back at the home by a Packet reporter Wednesday afternoon. Agents from the FBI were on scene at the home throughout the evening, collecting evidence until at least 9 p.m. Wednesday.
FBI spokesperson Deborah Madden referred all press requests to the The US Attorney’s Office in Oxford, which did not immediately return phone calls from The Packet Wednesday evening.

Packet Publisher Colin Krieger was on scene and left contact information with the family to enable them to tell their side of the story. Krieger was met with gruff resistance from residents of the home while on scene.  As of press time, no contact had been made.
Several law enforcement sources and two residents of the neighborhood told The Packet that the couple had recently adopted an infant child from Mexico, and that the FBI was investigating Cliff Bragg for possible charges involving the legality of the child’s acquisition. Both Candice and Cliff Bragg’s Facebook pages had photographs dated February 2013 that show an infant that appears to be of Latin descent. A neighbor of the Bragg’s said the couple had stated the baby once belonged to a cousin of Cliff Bragg’s.
The  Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office declined to comment, stating that the investigation was being handled by the FBI.
