The Jackson City Council will cut its own pay and share the pain with city employees, who are facing pay and benefit cuts and layoffs.
The Mayor’s salary will be cut $600 from $12,350 to $11,750, and council members’ salaries will be cut $400 from $8,250 to $7,850 for the next two years.
The cuts were recommended last month by the Local Officers Compensation Commission and the council approved them Tuesday by a vote of 6-1. The cuts will take effect in 30 days. Population of Jackson, MI. is 33000 , 10 ,000 more than Columbus, MS. Why are our Columbus city leaders crying about needing a pay raise? Surely not over worked. Our Councilman are very part time and the rest have 3 day weekends every week and 4 and 5 days when connected with holidays. Can some one enlighten me on this one? I think we should be following the lead of those folks in Jackson, MI.
