Area residents will soon be able to enjoy an new three-water slide aquatic attraction at Guthrie Smith Park in Fayette.
The new facility features a 5,400 sq. ft. multipurpose pool with a zero-depth entry for children. The aquatic center will also house three waterslides located on a 35 ft. tall tower including a red flume slide with a double corkscrew turn that is 253 ft. in length.
“This project will have a substantial tourism draw from about a fifty mile radius,” said Fayette Mayor Ray Nelson during a media event Wednesday. “It will also be a powerful economic engine for Fayette. It has something for all ages.”
Sue Tucker, Marketing Director for Guthrie Smith Park, said the new facility will a welcomed addition to the park.
“This will be the highlight of Guthrie Smith Park, adding to our splashpad, fishing lake, walking trails, picnic areas and sports fields” Tucker said. “We want to provide a good one of a kind place for family fun.”
The facility was designed by the Vernon branch of Goodwin, Mills and Caywood.
University of Alabama Men’s Rowing Coach Erika Baraneck will manage the park’s 30 lifeguards.
