Ida Ellen Yelverton Roberts
Ida Ellen Yelverton Roberts, age 82, of Columbus, MS, passed away May 9, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Rev. Charles Mullins officiating and Rev. Jearl Hunley assisting. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, May 11, 2013, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home.
Mrs. Roberts was born September 13, 1930, in Fremont, NC, to the late Robert and Mamie Lee Yelverton. She served in the United States Air Force and attended Draughons Business College of Willmington, DE. Mrs. Roberts retired from the Social Security Administration Office of Columbus after many years and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Thomas T. Roberts of Columbus, MS, and her son, Van T. Roberts of Columbus, MS.Pallbearers will be Mike McGill, Ben Thomas, Gary Barnett, Bob Boland, Sidney Thompson, and Larry Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be the past and present staff of the Social Security Administration Office of Columbus.

Sylvia Miller Bush
Sylvia Miller Bush, age 90, of Steens, MS, passed away May 13, 2013, at the Care Center of Vernon, AL. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 16, 2013, at 10:00 AM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Eddie Lawson officiating and Elbert Wheat assisting. The interment will immediately follow at Lone Oak Cemetery in Steens. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 15, 2013, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bush was born November 19, 1922, in Lamar County, AL, to the late
Garmon and Ellie Smith Miller. She was a member of the Lone Oak Church of Christ and enjoyed her role through the years as baby sitter and child care provider to all the children in the Lone Oak Community. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bush was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Edward Bush, Sr., sisters, Flornie Smith and Lovertis Logan, brother, Melton Miller, and grandson, Roger Smith.
Survivors include her sons, Henry Edward Bush and his wife Jeannette of Vernon, AL, Luther Edward Bush, Jr. and his wife Sheila of Columbus, MS, Perry Dale Bush and his wife Nancy of Steens, MS, and Charles Dewey Bush and his wife Faye of Steens, MS, daughters, Ella Mae Bush Vaughan of Steens, MS, and Vera Mae Bush Anderson and her husband Bobby of Columbus, MS, 10 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dewayne Vaughan, Ricky Vaughan, Michael Bush, Josh Bush, Shawn Franks, and Buz Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be David Traywick, Ben Wesley, Ronnie McDaniel, members of the Lone Oak Church of Christ, and staff of the Care Center of Vernon.

Gary Robert Bagwell
Gary Robert Bagwell age 44 died Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Columbus. Services with full military honors will be held Wednesday May 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with Father Robert Dore officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
Gary was born on Wednesday, October 30, 1968 in Wiesbaden, Germany to James T. and Vickie Johnson Bagwell.
He had a distinguished 20 year career in the Air Force and was proud to be an AMMO specialist, an experience that created an amazing number of lasting friendships. He lived and worked all over the world including 9 years in Korea. He and his wife had recently completed a home in Escalante City, Negros, Occidental, Philippines, her home. His final employment was with DynCorp on Columbus AFB. He is mourned by many and his death is a huge loss for those who loved him.
