It’s impossible to put into words all that Mike Pratt has contributed to Columbus Main Street, Market Street Festival and the entire City of Columbus. Mike was always there to lend a hand from beginning to end with a positive attitude and a smile on his face. Under his supervision, his public works crews exuded this same attitude.
I never heard him say a cross word about anyone, I never remember him saying “no” to anything that was asked of him or any of his crew members, he was truly one of the most sincere and genuine people I have ever had the pleasure to have known. Over the past several days, so many people have said , “He was such a nice guy,” “he will never be able to be replaced,” “he had the hardest job in the city,” and numerous other complimentary comments. I agree with all of them. While Mike never had anything negative to say about anyone, no one ever had anything negative to say about him either.
If I have said it once, I have said it 100 times — we could never do Market Street Festival without Mike. He is the only one that was always there from beginning to end; he was the first to get there and the last to leave; the one you can call for anything and everything.
The show must go on and it will, in his memory. This weekend will definitely be bittersweet without Mike here as he already had a lot of planning handled for this weekend and I am sure his public works crews will do a fantastic job as they always do. To say he will be missed is an understatement.
In addition to Market Street Festival, Mike and his workers played a crucial role in every event and endeavor of Columbus Main Street. He was one of the hardest working people I have ever known, that was his nature. He was an asset to the city, a pleasure to work with professionally and someone I am proud to have called a friend.
