Monroe County Sheriffs Charge Local Business Owner with Animal Cruelty

Thanks to a recent tip, a search warrant was executed last Thursday, March 21, 2013 for a business called “A Doggie Dog World” located at a residence on Center Hill Road in Monroe County.  There the Sheriff’s Department found approximately 100 dogs and several cats in horrible living conditions.  The business owner in question, Cindy Ann House Umbel, was wanted for questioning in connection with the case.  She faced animal cruelty charges, but was not found on the premises.
Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell commented about how inhumane the conditions were that the animals were kept.   They were kept in pens and boxes throughout the house and outdoors.  Amory Humane Society transported the animals to their facility for immediate care and evaluation.  Almost all the animals have mange, and are underweight.  The Amory Humane Society is in desperate need of additional supplies, especially dog food and puppy food to handle the increased amount of mouths to feed and medicate.  Donations can be made to Amory Animal Hospital, as well.
In response to the influx of questions from the public looking for their missing pets, or seeking to adopt one of the dogs, the Amory Humane Society released the following statement: “In reference to the dogs seized yesterday, they will not be available to view or identify until after the courts release them to us. If you have information on a missing or lost pet please email pictures and a detailed description to us at amoryshelter @yahoo.com. You may also bring your information by the shelter and leave it with staff. We are currently helping the animals and have been overwhelmed with responses. We are grateful. We assure everyone that have missing or lost pets that we will not let any leave this facility without trying to locate their owners. Please watch our facebook page daily. We will update everyone.” Mitzie Darty Smith, Amory Humane Society.
According to a spokesperson with the Monroe County Sheriff Department, Cindy Ann House, 40, was arrested on March 25, 2013 and charged with Cruelty to Animals.  Additional charges may also be filed.  She was released on bond.
If you’d like to help with a donation, please contact the Amory Humane Society at 662-256-7566 or amoryshelter@yahoo.com.
