Medical responders and CPD officers rushed to the top of the off-ramp leading from the Hwy 82 Bypass Eastbound lanes onto Hwy 45 N Saturday night for a wreck involving a motorcycle. At 7:28 p.m., a passerby called 911 for the motorcycle rider involved and blocked the exit with his car to prevent any other cars from hitting the victim.
The rider, Judson C. Newman, of Ethelsville, told responders that a car in the left lane of the Bypass crossed over both lanes and cut him off to take the off-ramp. According to Newman, when the vehicle crossed into his path, he attempted to stop and lost control of his Harley, laying the bike down in the gravel on the outer shoulder of the off-ramp. Newman was stabilized and transported to BMH-GT. A blood test at the hospital later showed that the rider’s Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) was more than twice the legal limit to be operating a motor vehicle. Newman was charged with Driving Under the Influence.0
