Linkie Marais Demos at W

“Food Network Star” finalist and Mississippi University for Women alumna Linkie Marais returned to her alma mater on Wednesday to teach a couple of classes.
Students of MUW’s Culinary Arts Institute were treated to cake decorating tips by the 2006 graduate, who was also a fan favorite on season eight of “Food Network Star.” Students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community also had an opportunity to meet Marais from 3 p.m. to 4:30
p.m. in Shattuck Hall.
“I cannot be more excited to head back to the place where it all started for me,” she said. “I am overwhelmed with all with all of the support I have received from The W. I cannot wait to tell everyone thank you.”
Marais is back in Mississippi to launch a series of cake decorating classes. The first classes were held in Tupelo.
“My passion is to teach classes,” she said, adding that home was the perfect place to start.
Originally from South Africa, Marais moved to Tupelo with her family when she was 16. She worked for a wedding company during high school where she decorated wedding cakes and catered. She later earned a degree in culinary arts from MUW.
After attending MUW, Marais worked as a pastry chef and cake artist. She moved to Boston where she worked for a high-profile baking company and was part of a team that decorated up to 80 cakes per week.
The 28-year-old Marais resides in North Attleborough, Mass.
