A Columbus family is mourning the loss of their two-year-old child after the boy drowned in a pool on Friday.
Hayden Joey Glenn White was spending the afternoon with his father, Joey White, and family friends at 160 Kristen Drive when the child reportedly slipped away unnoticed into the backyard.
According to Coroner Greg Merchant, the toddler, who had just turned two in June, climbed a ladder to the top of a 42-inch above-ground swimming pool before becoming submerged in the water. Merchant said the boy was under the water for “a few minutes” when he was discovered by family members.
CPR was reportedly administered on the child until the ambulance arrived. He was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, where he was pronounced dead.
Hayden’s mother, Whitney Barham, said her son “is one of the best things that has ever happened to me” and “will be missed dearly.”
