A customer turned burglar attempted to rob the Spint Mart on Hwy 12 and New Light Road in Starkville on Friday when he found himself in a tight spot.
James Rovenstine, 23, of Weir, climbed on the roof of the building with the intent of breaking in through the ceiling. Rovenstine made his way into the attic when the floor gave way beneth him and he plummeted below. The bandit landed between a cooler and a brick wall, pining himself in the tight 10 inch space.
Employees told police they heard a sound that they initially thought was thunder until Rovenstine began screaming for help a few minutes later. When they went to investigate the source of the noise, employees heard the burglar trapped behind the wall. Rovenstine told the late night crew that he was working on a construction crew that bricked up the wall around him.
Starkville Police and the Starkville Fire Fighters worked to tear down the wall for 30 minutes before Rovenstine was eventually freed.
Rovenstine escaped from the incident unscathed but was arrested on scene and charged with burglary.0
