Jeffrey Rice of Columbus was driving westbound towards Starkville last Thursday when he noticed the smell of smoke coming from his 1993 Ford Escort. Rice, 27, pulled over onto the lefthand shoulder of the road and quickley got of the car and called E-911.
Flames began to flicker from the vehicle and that’s when Rice said he threw a cup of water on the blaze. Unfortunately, the car continued to burn until District 5 Volunteer Firefighters arrived on scene. While the firefighters continued to douse the car with water, they realized they needed foam to put out the inferno and called the city fire department for back up. Within minutes, the blaze was out. Rice was uninjured in the incident.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.0
