Twenty-three-year-old Myron Sewell has been arrested and charged with capital murder in the Sep. 22 shooting of William Lavelle Vaughn. Officials with the Columbus Police Department announced the arrest at a press conference Friday afternoon.
Vaughn was found lying in the street in front of his father’s 6th Ave. N. home with two gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was immediately transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle but died en route.
Sewell was in the custody of the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center at the time of his arrest on Friday. He was arrested on Jan. 17 for the alleged burglary and sexual assault of a woman at the Double S Laundromat.
He was denied bond at his initial appearance Friday afternoon. He is set to appear in court for the murder charge on Sep. 6.
During Friday’s press conference, Chief of Police Selvain McQueen also announced a warrant had been signed for the arrest of Curtis Hinton.
Hinton is wanted for his role in the 1997 murder of 70-year-old George Wilbanks. Officials with the CPD say Hinton and Earnet Talley are believed to have murdered the elderly man.
Talley was arrested in February and charged with capital murder. He is currently in the custody of the LCADC.
