Mexie Lee Chism, 82 of Columbus, MS passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012 at The Bridge of South Pittsburg Healthcare, South Pittsburg, TN.
Visitation for Miss Chism will be Tuesday, May 15, 2012 from 6 PM – 8 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 2 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbus, MS with Bro. Steve Lammons officiating. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.
Miss Chism was born March 6, 1930 to the late Earnest Lee & Dicie Richardson Chism in Columbus, MS. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbus, MS, loved reading, music and cooking. Miss Chism was a graduate of Mississippi University for Women, The University of Alabama and Georgia Southern University, she was a teacher and counselor for schools in Iowa , Georgia and Columbus City Schools until she retired in 1995. In addition to her parents, Miss Chism was preceded in death by her sister Lexie Harbour.
Miss Chism is survived by her brother – Rev. Ray (Mable) Chism, South Pittsburg, TN, nieces – Carol H. King and Penney Ann Carey, and several cousins.
Pallbearers will be Ray Crane, Richard Cox, David Dortch, Alvin Porter, James Richardson and Larry Richardson.
