Obituary for Heyward Taylor Spinks, Jr.

Mr. Heyward Spinks, Jr., 83 of Florence, Al. passed away, Thursday April 26, 2012 at U.A.B. Hospital in Birmingham, Al.
Visitation for Mr. Spinks was Saturday April 28, 2012 from 10 till 11AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. A Funeral Service followed at 11 AM at the church with Bro. Steve Lammons officiating and Bro. Jerry Rea assisting. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Columbus, MS, with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Spinks was born March 5, 1929 in Jasper, AL to the late Heyward Taylor and Thelma Tardy Spinks, Sr. He lived in Columbus, MS for thirty four years before moving to Florence, AL three years ago. Mr. Spinks retired from United Technologies in 1992 after thirty one years of service as a chemical engineer. He was a member of the Columbus Exchange Club for forty years, a member of Woodmont Baptist Church in Florence, AL and a former member of First Baptist Church, Columbus where he taught first grade boys Sunday School Class and was the committee chairman with Troop One of the Boy Scouts, and also taught Metallurgy at Golden Triangle Vo-Tech, Mayhew, MS. Mr. Spinks enjoyed golf and was an avid reader. In additional to his parents he is also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Spinks
Mr. Spinks is survived by his wife – JoAnn Spinks of Florence, Al., son – Jim (Renee) Spinks of Florence, Al., and sister – Eloise Kalb of Maumell, AR., grandchild – Taylor Spinks, special niece –Melinda Beith and a nephew-Ray Spinks.
Pallbearers were Josh Sansing, Brad Minton, David Sansing, Roger Minton, Richard Junkin, Martin Rowland, David Cumbie, Dean Stevens, Andrew Junkin and Taylor Spinks. Honorary pallbearers were Bura C. Junkin, Men’s I Sunday School Class, Melvin Gran, Waymon Fendley, Al Smith, Ben Long, members of Columbus Exchange Club, Thurston Butler, Bo Cummmings, John Dyson, Richard Laws and Andy Bieth.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 and the American Heart, P.O.Box 16808, Jackson, MS 39236.
