Investigators with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department are looking for a man after stolen guns were found inside his residence Wednesday afternoon.
Columbus Police Department Warrant Officers Lance Luckey and William Thrasher were attempting to serve a contempt of court warrant on Marcus Sykes at his home at 3051 Hwy. 69 when they noticed several guns, laptops and scales lying in plain view.
The officers then contacted Lowndes County Metro Narcotics agents who then in turn contacted investigators. With the help of the warrant officers, narcotics agents and agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, the investigators recovered six shotguns, a hunting rifle and two handguns, three radios, four laptops, two scales, a bong and approximately five grams of marijuana. Two of the firearms came back as stolen on the National Crime Information Center, one from a burglary in Lowndes County and another burglary in Vernon, AL.
Sykes was not on scene at the time of the search warrant but his female friend, Erica Billups was inside the residence. She was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. As of press time Wednesday evening, Sykes’ connection to the stolen weapons was unclear. Investigators are actively looking for Sykes for questioning.0
