An early morning home invasion has the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department on the hunt for a local man.
Jerry Rogers, 27, of 77 Widner Drive, is wanted for breaking into a home on Colby Road off of Lee Stokes Road while the home owner and her two grown children were still inside the residence.
The invasion occurred around 6:15 Wednesday morning, when Rogers allegedly entered the home through the carport. Once inside, he went through an adjoining laundry room, opened another door, entered the kitchen and went straight to the bedroom.
The homeowner states that her husband had left for work less than five minutes before Rogers broke into the home. She was lying in bed when a masked man entered and immediately went for a metal box where the owners kept cash, important papers and prescription medication. Rogers snatched the box and tried to exit the bedroom but a brief struggle ensued as the homeowner tried to wrestle the box away from the intruder.
The woman recognized the man and told investigators that he had been a guest in her home on numerous occasion, even living with the family for a brief period of time.
Rogers has a lengthy history with law enforcement, with warrants out for his arrest in Vernon, Al and Lamar County, Al. He also has a warrant in Lowndes County on a possession of a weapon by a convicted felon charge.
