Earnest Terrell Talley has been arrested and charged in the 1997 murder of George Wilbanks.
Talley, 44, of 805 Remunda Drive, was charged by the Columbus Police Department earlier this morning.
Talley was in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center for a January 14 arrest of two counts of burglary of a dwelling. He had not yet made his 20,000 bond.
At his arraignment Friday morning, Judge Marc Amos set Talley’s bond at 2 million dollars.
Wilbanks was one of five unsolved murders that garnered national attention in the last 1990’s.
The newly formed homicide task force consisting of retired police chief Pete Bowen and investigator Ed Williams made the break in the case but according to Bowen, “The evidence was there, we just put the last piece of the puzzle together.”
Talley’s court date is set for May 17.
