The decomposed, bloated body of an older white male pulled from the Luxapalila River here last Saturday has been identified as 55 year-old Robert Paul Martindale of Tishimingo. A career truck driver, Martindale was last seen by family members in early December and was reported missing to Tishimingo authorities Dec. 16, 2011.
Martindale’s 1993 blue Ford Explorer was located by Lowndes County Sheriff’s Deputies in early January and towed from its location at Moore’s Creek Road. Deputies found Martindale’s keys and wallet still inside the vehicle and foul play was not suspected at the time. After the vehicle was located, family members filed a missing person’s report with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department.
According to those familiar with the case, the family was concerned about Martindale’s mental well-being and warned authorities that he might be suicidal.
His body was found wedged under a boat dock on the Tenn-Tom Waterway near Bud Price Road. According to Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant, the body showed “advanced signs of decomposition” and had been in the water approximately three weeks. The cause of death is believed to be freshwater drowning.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department.0
