Longtime Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Conservation Officer (now retired) Wayne Beard received a merit award from the Mississippi Wildlife Federation last weekend in Jackson.
Wayne had been nominated by Bob Griffin, a retired Ms Dept of Wildlife and Fisheries Officer, for the award.
Wayne was a game warden for 32 years before retiring. During his time, he won several awards including district officer of the year. He was on the state level Dept of Wildlife and Fisheries pistol team and served as captain. The last several years of his career with them, he spent doing undercover work and investigations (He had to go to other areas of the state to do this because everyone around here knew him!!!) He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant. He has been with the Lowndes County SO for 8 years, tackling the problem of illegal dumping.
