Lowndes County Deputies raced to the 7100 block of Ridge Rd. around 2:00am Sunday morning after an alleged drunken driver slammed into some mailboxes and got stuck in her yard. Walley Willock, of Crews Dr. in Columbus, had driven his Dodge Ram pickup through a brick mailbox on 7150 Ridge Rd., demolishing the pillar box and leveling some tall grass before coming to rest in the front yard of 7114 Ridge.
E-911 received a call from a concerned citizen who said that Willock was in her yard and was spinning his tires trying to get unstuck from the somewhat soft ground. Dispatchers said the caller became alarmed when she said Willock exited the pickup and walked towards her home. Willock reportedly knocked on the door of the home unsuccessfully before returning to his truck.
Deputy Tony Perkins arrived at the home and ordered the inebriated subject to surrender, but Willock refused to cooperate. Deputy Robbie Robinson was on scene within minutes of Perkins, and the two experienced Deputies subdued the lively Willock after a short struggle. Willock screamed, kicked and cursed at the deputies and he was placed into the backseat of the waiting cruiser.
Deputies found another damaged mailbox at 9065 Ridge Rd. that was attributed to Willock’s wild ride. One brick from the mailbox at 7150 Ridge was found laying on the seat of Willock’s truck[It was unlcear if he had grabbed it as a momento,or if it flew into his cab due to the impact-CK]. Willock was charged with No Proof of Insurance, Leaving The Scene of an Accident, Simple Assault on a Police Officer (for kicking Deputy Robinson), Failure to Obey a Police Officer and DUI 3rd Offense (Felony)
