St.John resigns from 911 board

Joseph St. John at Huck's Tuesday evening as he celebrated his 50th Birthday

Embattled former Columbus Police Chief Joseph St. John resigned from his position on the Lowndes County E-911 board Wednesday. St. John posted a statement on his Facebook addressing the incident :
“I have done this so I can be more opened about what I am seeing and hearing in our community with being beholding to anyone. If we don’t take a serious look at what is happening in our community, it will never get better!!!!”
St. John also said that “There is a lot going on in this town, and nobody is reporting a word of it.” The latter comment led some party goers at St. John’s 50th birthday party at Huck’s Tuesday night to think he may be entering the political arena, or possibly the media.
St. John told The Packet at Hucks that he would be quitting all of the boards and committees he was on and putting his short-lived private investigative firm on hold so he “Could get more involved in the community.” He said he had no specific plans of how he would do that, but that he didn’t want anyone to say he had any alterior motives in doing so.
St. John was fired from the Columbus police Department this summer after reportedly testing positive for alcohol after missing a hearing for suspended Lt. John Pevey. St.John was quoted in the Commercial Dispatch shortly after his dismissal as saying he was looking into private investigation as a possible career.
