Local leaders inducted as commanders at CAFB

At 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, at Columbus Air Force Base, a group of local business leaders and community members were inducted into the honorary commander program at the 14th Flying Training Wing.
The honorary commander program was instituted in 2003 for civic and corporate leaders to gain insight into and experience with the base by working and socializing with air force and base personnel. The program in turn builds community relations within the Golden Triangle and Columbus Air Force Base. Over the years, the program has grown to include civilians who, because of their position or positive influence in the community, have a positive impact on public support for the base.
“(This ceremony) lays the foundation for the beginning of what we hope to be a positive and growing relationship between Columbus Air Force Base and our local community leaders,” said Seguin.
Each honorary commander is presented by a base officer and the ceremony mimics a normal change of command ceremony.
Colonel Barre Seguin is the 14th Flying Training Wing Commander; his new honorary commanders are Earl Walker, Senior Director/Site General Manager for American Eurocopter Corporation’s Columbus operations, and Birney Imes, editor and publisher of The Commercial Dispatch. Both of their names were put on a fighter jet in recognition of their new honorary position.
Colonel Matthew Isler is the 14th Flying Training Wing Vice Commander; joining him as his new honorary commander was Bobby Berry, WCBI TV General Manager.
Chief Master Sergeant Leo Thibedeaux, 14th Flying Training Wing Acting Command Chief, presented John Almond, who manages community relations at Carl Hogan Honda in Columbus. Colonel Scott Frickenstein, the 14th Mission Support Group Commander, presented Jamey Ballard, a state farm agent in West Point.
Representing the 14th Operations Group is the 14th Operations Group Director of Operations, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Mozeleski. Joining him as his new honorary commander was Dr. Barton Williams, a cardiologist and owner of the Liberty Heart Center.
Colonel Billye Hutchison is the 14th Medical Group Commander, and joining her as her new honorary commander was Allegra Brigham, current Mississippi University for Women Interim President.
Lt. Colonel Robert Haas is the 50th Flying Training Squadron Commander, and his new honorary commander is Bill Colorado, General Manager for Old Waverly Golf Club.
