Charles Smith, 41, of West Point was arrested Sunday morning for the late night stabbing death of 60 year old Benny Oats.
The incident occurred just before midnight Saturday night at Club G’s in the White Station community in West Point. When paramedics arrived on scene they discovered Oats bleeding from an apparent stab wound to his chest.
Oats was transported to Clay County Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Smith was charged with homicide and is being held in the Clay County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
Early in the evening James Stark, 38, of 3004 Kelly Road in West Point was traveling west bound on Hazelwood Road Saturday night when his 2002 Suzuki Hayabusa collided with an east bound pick up truck driven by Joe Montgomery. According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Department the motorcycle “struck the truck behind the driver’s door causing extensive damage to the truck and completely destroying the motorcycle.”
Stark was transported to the Clay County Medical Center and airlifted to Northeast Medical Center in Tupelo where he later died of his injuries.
Montgomery was not injured in the accident. 0
