Breaking News – Third Murder in Columbus in Less Than a Week

Columbus had its third murder in less than a week at 10:30 pm Thursday night.  The victim, a black male in his 40s, was shot twice on 27th Street North near 6th Avenue.  The victim was responsive on scene and told officers that he was shot by “a white man”.  The victim, whose identity has not been released by the CPD, was rushed to Baptist Memorial Hospital, but died in the ambulance en route.  Anyone with information regarding this or either of the previous two murders is encouraged to contact the Columbus Police Department or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.

Update: Police have identified the victim as 41-year-old William Lavelle Vaughan. Vaughn was the son of local preacher William Vaughn, Sr.

Wow Elizabeth…What’s going on down there in Columbus??? Not sure there’s that many murders in a weeks time here in Atlanta.

I’ll be sure and wear some Kevlar next time and come and see you and T.O 8)

Pray for our city…. Pray for our Patrolmen, Deputies and all other Law Enforcement Officers…. Pray for our Fire People… Our Paramedics and all our other first responders…. Remember… While we sit in fear… And wonder what’s going to happen next… They are out there serving, protecting, and responding to things we can’t even imagine… May God bless and protect u all…

I’m also praying for the family and friends of these victims… and I pray these assailants will be brought in and brought to justice…

Columbus is no longer that “small town friendly city” that we have always been described by… and unless the LEADERS of this community figure out how to get a grip on this… it’s only going to get worse. I for one… will no longer venture out on my own after dark. I know they will say these are not random acts of violence… or that the victim and shooter are some how connected… but there are probably 3 murderers out there somewhere… and I do NOT want to be caught up in anyone’s disputes…

the police don’t care. too worried about harassing bar customers downtown & hoping to hand out public intoxication tickets. If they really cared, they’d find a way to get a cab service that was reliable downtown so people wouldnt need to walk, out of fear of the police stalking the bars trying to give everyone that drives out a DUI.

I pray for Rev. Vaughn and his family at this time. Lavell didn’t bother nobody, ever since I got to know the family they kept to themselves living normal lives like everyone else. I hope they find this “white man” who shot Lavell down in cold blood and justice will be served. I lost my 19 year old daughter on my 55th birthday to a tragic car wreck and I know how they are feeling right now. Rev. Vaughn is a good friend and co-worker and will go out his way to help anyone in need. Do you all have any idea how it feels to lose a child? Trust me it’s a link that will never be replaced. You will learn to live it with but you will never forget it. This is no longer the “Friendly City”! RIP Lavelle, you were alright with me. Killers of these victims need to be brought forward and dealt with so that these families will have closure on their loved ones that are no longer here.

Columbus Police Department has fallen to the waste side. How are all these guns getting in the hands of these killers.Alot officers of officers spend to much time buying sex from low income females.Nobody cares enough to do anything there.I hate coming home my city will never be the same.To many senseless murders any to many sorry ass cops.Columbus is now a city of shame.Living in Atlanta GA was the best move ever.
