Police are investigating two shootings that happened in Columbus this week.
The first incident happened Monday night at about midnight in the 2200 block of 5th Ave S. Several 911 calls were made stating that someone was shooting out of a car window in the area. The callers identified the shooter(s) as black male(s) wearing dark pants and white t-shirts.
When officers arrived, they found that several shots had been fired at a blue house at the corner of 22nd St and 5th Ave. Empty shell casings were found outside the home. The only gunshot victim, John Easley, Jr., was taken to the hospital by friends. Easley told officers that he did not know the name of the person who shot him, but said that the shooter lived in the Sandfield area.
Easley was shot three times, once in his right thigh, his arm, and his lower abs. Surgery was performed to extract the bullet lodged in his leg. He is currently in stable condition and is due to be released from the hospital in the next few days.
The second incident occurred Wednesday morning at about 1:18 a.m., on Military Road.
Anthony Taylor was parked in the Medical Arts Pharmacy parking lot at 504 Military Road. When he pulled out of the lot, he said a black male walked towards his vehicle, drew a gun and started firing on him.
Taylor told The Packet that he did the only thing he knew to do: duck his head and floor it. He took off down Military Road, where the shooter shattered his back windshield and lodged a bullet in the back seat of his 2004 GMC Yukon truck. Taylor was uninjured in the attack.
Taylor said he did not know who was shooting at him, but said the assailant was wearing a white shirt. Six shell casings were found on the scene and the SUV left a good amount of glass in the roadway
The police are still investigating both shootings, and are looking for the parties involved.
