Shaw indicted for embezzlement

Former Columbus Packet employee Aimee Shaw has been indicted on charges she embezzled money from the paper.
Shaw was arrested September 18, 2010, and bound over to the grand jury following a hearing in Columbus Municipal Court in December. She is accused of embezzling over $20,000 from the Packet over a period of several years.
Shaw was indicted by the grand jury last month. The grand jury returned 69 indictments during that term.
Shaw turned herself in to authorities last week.
She is represented by Eupora-based attorney George Mitchell. Trial has been scheduled for November 30 before Circuit Judge Lee Coleman.
According to the indictment: “While an employee of the Columbus Packet, she had in and under her care and possession property of the said Columbus Packet – to wit: money, having total value in excess of $500, and did then and there without consent feloniously embezzle said property and did fraudulently and feloniously convert said property to her own use…”
“I have full faith that the judicial system will bring her to account,” said former Packet owner Roger Larsen.
Shaw was business manager and graphic designer for the Packet for five years. She left the Packet when the Packet changed ownership in July 2010. She was previously an employee of the Commercial Dispatch.
After leaving the Packet she started a free on-line newspaper called the Possum Town Post, and currently does work with a local advertiser called The Area Shopper, owned by Russ Brown. Shaw also has a freelance graphic design business called Aimee Shaw’s Digital Creations.
