The Columbus City Council voted to name Lt. Selvain McQueen as Interim Chief of the Columbus Police Department shortly after the council fired Joseph St. John at their Tuesday night meeting. McQueen has been with the Columbus Police Department for 23 years and most recently served as Lead Investigator. The City will mount a nationwide search for a new Chief that could take anywhere from 2 to 6 months (McQueen would be considered as a candidate). McQueen told The Packet yesterday that the citizens have nothing to worry about during the transition and the department will function efficiently.
“I have a vision for the department, and have for a long time. I am going to start implementing that plan shortly” McQueen said.
Chief McQueen also had a stern message for troublemakers in Columbus:
“The criminal element in Columbus now has three options on the table:
1. Stop committing crime
3. Go to jail”
