Lt. Selvain McQueen Promoted to Interim Chief

Interim Chief McQueen

The Columbus City Council voted to name Lt. Selvain McQueen as Interim Chief of the Columbus Police Department shortly after the council fired Joseph St. John at their Tuesday night meeting. McQueen has been with the Columbus Police Department for 23 years and most recently served as Lead Investigator. The City will mount a nationwide search for a new Chief that could take anywhere from 2 to 6 months (McQueen would be considered as a candidate). McQueen told The Packet yesterday that the citizens have nothing to worry about during the transition and the department will function efficiently.

“I have a vision for the department, and have for a long time. I am going to start implementing that plan shortly” McQueen said.
Chief McQueen also had a stern message for troublemakers in Columbus:
“The criminal element in Columbus now has three options on the table:
1. Stop committing crime
2. Move
3. Go to jail”

  1. He dropped out of the Sheriff’s race because of it, and it has changed the odds board in Vegas w/ this race. They started w/ 8, and the Dispatch has only 5 listed now.

  2. Ross…the Dispatch only list those candidates who have paid $200 to have their name on that list. If they don’t pay the $200, they don’t get listed at all. The entire candidates list is inside The Packet! RW

  3. I smell SOUR MILK! I was raised an AMERICAN!!! A TAX-PAYING, MISSISSIPPI, COLUMBUS LOVING AMERICAN! My father did not spend his entire life fighting for this type of injustice! He raised his family to be fair, honest, and truthful… This, what Columbus is going through right now, will not end well… They have judged and convicted this man and ALL I GOT TO SAY IS… “What goes around… Comes around” Lets not judge everyone for wat 5 people decided on Tuseday Night!

McQueen? Really? I know quite a few other officers that would have made a better interim chief. I know a good many of the CPD and friends with a few, and I never really cared for McQueen. He likes to flirt a lot with younger women when he is out and is a bit rude to those that aren’t to his taste. He is a bit twisted in my honest opinion. I really hope that he doesn’t get the permanent job. :/

You are so right and he was that way 20 yrs ago when I lived in the city and had to put up with this ignorant man’s advances. Also, he just looked plain stupid on that show about the serial killer in Columbus (They could be around here driving a Jag wire”)

You are right and he has been that way for a long time even 20 years ago when I lived in the city…He looked really stupid on that show about the serial killer (“He could be around here driving a Jag wire”). Hopefully his police ethics are better than his personal ones.
