Bat Attack on Taylor Street—-Victim Complained of Neighbor Shooting His Cats

Raymond Rodgers recounts his story

Just before noon last Thursday morning, officers responded to 105 Taylor Street for an E-911 call of people fighting in the street with a baseball bat. Once officers arrived on scene they were met by Robert Hargrove who claims he and his step father, Raymond Rodgers, were beaten with a basball bat by their next door neighbor, Roosevelt Davis.

Rodgers claims that Davis was outisde shooting a BB gun and when Rodgers asked him to stop, Davis replied “I got something for your a**” and then went inside and got a baseball bat. Rodgers says that Davis then began cursing Rodgers and his wife, Gail. Gail Rodgers claims that Davis began yelling at her husband to “Come out in the street and fight like a man.”

Davis claims however that he was in his back yard shooting an air rifle style BB gun at aluminum cans when Rodgers came outside and begun yelling at him, calling him a n***** and yelling at him to come out in  the street so he could “whoop his a**”.

When CPD officers and EMT’s arrived on scene they found Rodgers with several lacerations on both knees, a small cut on his left ear and was complaining of pain in his left hand and was transported to BMH-GT. Hargrove was also complaining of pain in his left shoulder.

Officers spoke with witnesses who claim they saw Davis beating both Rodgers and Hargrove with the baseball bat. According to Gail Rodgers, this whole incident started over their cats. She claims that Davis repeatedly shoots their cats with his BB gun and killed one a couple of weeks ago. She claims that her husband had “had enough” and was tired of Davis shooting the felines which is why he began yelling at Davis in the first place.

The victims should have been working together to take the bat away from Davis…I hope the cat shooter is going to be charged with animal abuse. If not, he certainly should be.

All of these people should have been at work & then they wouldn’t have been at home to fight!

  3. Paige

I could care less if they are all green and purple skin people, I would have beaten him within an inch of his life with his own bat if he shot my cat. Race has nothing do with it.

I am totally agreeing with you, Paige and also Rosie. I’m hoping he catches some type of charge for harming innocent animals.

As far as the human abuse….well let’s just say that one of them will eventually end up moving. I know I would or I’d be buying another gun—-and that goes for both parties involved.
