The Lux Ness Monster

Bill Cole and his grandson Cole Reed caught a 60 lb. alligator snapping turtle last week while jug fishing at Luxapalila Park. The two said they were jug fishing for catfish next to the swimming area of the Lux (YIKES!) Wednesday when they pulled the large terrapin up.

“I was barefoot and I was fixin’ to jump out of the boat when we got him in, he’s quick as lightning” said Cole.     Cole Reed, a student at Hamilton Middle School, said the turtle was as strong as it looked: “He crushed that tennis ball like it was nothing, just crushed it.”

Bill Cole took the beast back to his home in New Hope and placed it in a small enclosure usually reserved for his dog. The longtime owner of Dixie Towing, Cole says he’s never seen one nearly this big and he  hopes he doesn’t again. The snapper was transported back to the river Thursday afternoon and is said to be in good spirits.

  1. Alligator snapping turtles are native to his area and I have seen several. One of which was around 30 lbs. Strong as they are they typically won’t mess with you unless you mess with them.

They put it back in and it was in good spirits!! What’s the world coming to?It’s bites somebody, who’s to blame the people for swimming!! Jean Turner

It is these ignorant folks like “Turner” that shoot black bears and kill kingsmakes.

Another slack-jawed Mississippi dumb@$$ down in Amite County kills tagged black bear that had been rescued by wildlife services and then released back into the wild.

Just another reason that Mississippi is at the top of the list of everything that is bad, and at the bottom of the list of everything that is good.

And all the billions of Mississippi tax dollars that Jim Barksdale plans on pouring into improving reading skills is never gonna’ change anything. Mississippi is close to the top in animal cruelty. All that money the lady from Santa Catalina Island– now living over there in the Prairie– donated to MSU to “educate” Mississippians on animal cruelty is wasted.
