Shortly after 1:00 am Saturday morning, Columbus Police officers were dispatched to a disturbance at Columbus Inn and Suites on Hwy 45 North. Upon arrival, officers found Brian Dominick in the courtyard of the hotel with his wife Kimberley and some friends. Witnesses said Kimberley had come to town to visit and have dinner with her husband. When the couple arrived home from dinner, Brian Dominick and his roomate James Poland got into an altercation. During the fight Poland allegedly hit Mrs. Dominick in the face and broke a beer bottle over Mr. Dominick’s head. Dominick, reportedly enraged that his roommate had hit his wife put Poland into a headlock and punched him in the face until Poland’s blood was covering the front side of the left leg of his shorts. Poland then fled the scene on foot, but not before smashing the class case around a fire extinguisher and leaving a trail of blood from the second floor to the ground floor. Officers radioed for an ambulance while Mr. Dominick tried to calm down his frantic wife saying,”Just pump ya breaks baby, Pump ya breaks.” When officers locate Poland moments later, he appeared visibly intoxicated and was covered in blood. Poland had walked through the bushes and up a small hill before ending up in a ditch across the field behind the hotel, wearing only a tee shirt and his underwear. Although Poland stated that he did not need medical attention, an ambulance was dispatched to the scene, not only for the wounds to his head but also for the injuries he sustained while leaving the hotel. When questions by officers, Poland initially stated that he had fallen. After further questioning, Poland conceeded to police that he and his roommate had indeed been in a fight. Poland also stated, “Me and Brian ain’t got no problems. its just his old lady. I can’t stand his ol’ lady.” After being checked out by the paramedics, Poland returned to the hotel. The Dominick’s had already gone back to there room to go back to bed and locked the door so Poland retrieved a key from the front desk to do the same.
About an hour and a half later CPD officers received another call to the same room of the same hotel in reference to the same people doing the same thing. Poland had gone back into the hotel room and-after not being able to sleep- decided that he was going to get dressed and leave the hotel. In the process of looking for his wallet Poland had disturbed Dominick from his slumber and they began to fight again. Police returned and calmed the men down and Polande left the scene without further incident.[While running through the back exit of the court yard I saw 2 men trying to get something out of the vending machine. One of the men shouted out: “We’d have to get boxing on cable to see this kind of action!!!”-AH]
