Saturday morning, just before 2:00 am, CPD Officers Glen Culpepper and Joshua Vandiver were in the parking lot of the Dutch Village Shell Station. They watched as a Ford Taurus, driven by Robert Perrigin, ran the red light at the intersection of Hwy 50 and Lehmberg Rd. The car was speeding south on Hwy 12, blew through the light, hopped the hump in the middle of the intersection, lost control and hit the raised curb at the edge of the Shell parking lot. The curb sent the car spinning into a safety pole and flipping onto its side. [Had the pole not been there, the car would have ended up in Magby Creek behind the gas station. – JD]
He showed signs of intoxication and was given a field breathalyzer test (which was inconclusive) as well as several field sobriety tests. Perrigin agreed to go to the hospital for a blood alcohol test. In the end, he was charged with a DUI and taken to LCADC.
