Smith v Smith

Officer Lamar Peacock questions Kristi Lynn Estes.

Saturday morning, just before 1:00 am, Officer Christopher Smith witnessed a 2002 Ford Taurus running a red light in front of Walmart on Hwy 45 North.  Smith set after the vehicle, pulling it over on Shoney Drive in front of Aaron Rents.  The driver of the Ford, coincidentally also named Christopher Smith, turned out to be driving on a suspended license.  Officer Lamar Peacock arrived on scene to assist with the stop.  Smith and his passenger, Kristi Lynn Estes, were asked to step out of the car and Smith gave consent for the officers to search the vehicle.  During the search, they found a small amount of marijuana in a cigarette pack in Estes’ purse.  Estes was taken into custody and the officers continued to question her.  After being told that any drugs found on her inside the jail would be a felony, Estes produced a small bottle of pills that had been hidden in her underwear.  The bottle contained Lortabs, Hydrocodone, Ecstacy and Morphine (which was a felony possession anyway).    Narcotics Officer Don Richardson was called to the scene and, after testing the drugs, confirmed that she was being charged with possession of a controlled substance.  Upon further searching, Peacock found several more bottle of pills in a suitcase in the trunk of the Taurus.  Once transported to the jail, Estes was found to have more marijuana on her person, as well as a baggie with residue that tested positive as meth. In the end, Estes was charged with possession of marijuana; possession of marijuana within a government facility and possession of a controlled substance, while Smith was charged with driving on a suspended license and failing to obey a red light.  Smith was allowed to call his mother and she came to pick up the car.
