Wreck on Highway 69 South

New Hope High School senior Jasmine Powell was exceptionally lucky to have sustained few injuries after wrecking her Dodge Charger yesterday at 11:45 a.m. Powell was on her way to dance practice and was just around the corner from her home when she collided with Jimmy Spruil’s 2001 Ford F150 Supercrew Lariat. Spruil, an Aliceville resident, was on his way to Sibley’s Custom auto shop to pick up a hub adapter for his aftermarket rims and stopped behind a Garbage truck just south of Weaver Rd. Spruil said he was waiting for sanitation workers to empty a trash can. When Powell reached the top of the hill she noticed traffic at a stand-still. According to Spruil, he and his passenger saw Powell top the hill behind him traveling too fast and were able to move mostly out of the way causing a glancing blow. Worried that oncoming traffic could come around the curve ahead at any moment; Powell said she waited until the last moment to swerve away from the stopped traffic. Spruil’s F150 suffered moderate damage to the bed of the vehicle. The collision caused the rim for which he was seeking a hub adapter to flip completely over in the bed of his truck. Spruil and his passenger were ok and refused medical attention. Powell wasn’t severely injured despite not wearing her seatbelt. However, she was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital for fear of a slight concussion.
