Robert E. Hemphill, 88, passed away, Thursday, December 30, 2010 North MS Medical Center, West Point. Robert E. Hemphill was born November 11, 1922 in Columbus, Mississippi to the late Florence Marie Stafford and Samuel Nathan Hemphill. He was a Textile Mill Operator for Fruit of the Loom for 58 years. Mr. Hemphill was a member of Garden Baptist Church in Aliceville, where he was still an active Deacon. Robert E. Hemphill married
Maggie Reed Hemphill on October 11, 1941; in Fayette, Alabama, she preceded him in death on March 27, 1995.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. from Garden Baptist Church of Aliceville, AL with the
Bro. David Barrentine officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Cemetery West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of
West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue Melcher of West Point, Maragaret Franklin of Troy, AL; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Hemphill of Starkville; a number of nieces and nephews and extended family and friends Robert E. Hemphill was also predeceased by son, Earl Ray Hemphill, September of 1994
Pallbearers will be Jonathon Redmond, Justin Redmond, Jesse Melcher, Devan Melcher, Danny Coleman, Sammy Coleman, Freddy Melcher, and Adam Pate.
Honorary Pallbearers will be His church family at the Garden Baptist Church, all his friends at the Senior Center in Aliceville, and the Nurses and Staff at West Point Community, Living Center.
Visitation will be Saturday, 10:00 until Service Time at Calvert Funeral Home.
