Yesterday at 1:30 p.m. Sparkle Jennings, 18, of 605 Oak St was driving south on New Hope Rd toward McCully Rd when she left the road way and hit a tree. The Pontiac Grand Prix overturned and hit the tree with the roof before it landed back on its wheels in the ditch on the west side of the street. Jennings was trapped under the crushed roof and collapsed steering column in the driver’s seat. The roof was completely level with the hood and the trunk lid.
Firemen had to cut the a, b, and c-pillars to remove the entire roof just to access Jennings. After the roof was removed Firemen used the pneumatic pincers and chains to pull the dash and steering column off of Jennings by using the front bumper as an anchoring point.
Nearly thirty minutes after the accident Jennings was removed from the car intact and alive but in dire need of medical attention. The Air Evac Lifeteam was called in and landed their helicopter near the scene of the accident on Hwy 182 just east of New Hope Rd. Jennings was transported to Tuscaloosa due to bad weather in Tupelo. Jennings was conscious after being pulled from the wreckage but was unable to answer the EMT’s questions clearly.0
